Engineering Links

n.b. This page has been moved to: about2.wordpress.com/engineeringandscience-links

This page provides links to some of the best Engineering sites and a few which may not be directly related but have some professional or information based resources.

http://www.twiprofessional.com/ The Welding Institute (TWI), one of the worlds leading International Engineering organisations. It provides International training & examination services,  CSWIP competency certification, JoinIT the world’s most comprehensive information on joining technology, research & development (R&D), Industrial Membership of TWI, personal Professional Membership, The Welding & Joining Society (WJS) membership open to all who have an interest in joining technology,  Consultancy & project support, Technology Transfer and has an excellent Library full of Engineering books, articles, on-line data and world leading research papers. Also they have created a joint scheme with the Open University (OU) for the development of ‘Latent Talent‘ in the UK’s Technician workforce to develop their potential in order to address the shortage of qualified Engineers (CEng, IEng, EngTech). TWI is a truly ‘Global Leader’ with its origins dating back to 1923 originally known as ‘The Instiute of Welding Engineers‘ which has developed through various stages and is now a multi-discipline organisation setting standards for others to follow.

The Engineering Council (ECUK) is the UK’s professional competence, ethics and standards regulatory body for all Engineers & Technicians in the UK. It operates in conjunction with the various Licenced UK Engineering Institutions to enable the registration of suitably experienced and qualified scientific and technical personnel to become ‘Registered Engineers’. Registration of the ECUK is an internationally recognised standard and is a measure of the consistently high standards achieved by professional UK Engineers. It is a highly sought after standard and can take many years of high quality academic study, vocational or applied research and professional experience to achieve registration.

The City and Guilds (aka: City&Guilds or C&G) is dedicated to academic & vocational learning and is one of the worlds leading organisations in ‘skills’ based knowledge from Engineering to Art and everything in between. It provides international training and qualifications in virtually all subjects imaginable and has a wealth of experience in education going back to 1878 when it was formed by 16 of the City of London’s livery companies and the Corporation of London in order to establish a national system of Technical Education. I doubt if many other organisations can match its kudos!

http://www.i-l-m.com/ the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) is the UK’s premier management organisation. It was originally known as the Institute of Supervision & Management (ISM) then merged in 2001 with NEBS Management (National Examination Board for Supervision & Management) to form the ILM. It is part of The City & Guilds organisation offering professional qualifications & membership to individuals and organisations as well as commissioning independent research.

~~~~~ Welding Resources, Articles, Links and More! ~~~~~
http://weldinghistory.org a good place to start if you are completely new to welding and even the old hands will find it interesting. What could even be described, arguably, as the world’s third oldest profession!
http://www.elapro.net/welding.htm this part of the ELA Directory is of welding, joining, machining & metalworking. However, it is an A to Z Directory of hundreds, if not thousands, of links to many other sites, subjects and articles. It’s an outstanding source of information! (with a few dead-links!)
http://www.1911encyclopedia.org/Welding an original definition of welding.
http://honolulu.hawaii.edu/legacylib/esubjs/weld.html some useful links.
Useful links from The University of Sheffield, Materials(Eng) & Engineerin(Fac) Departments.
http://www.engineeringtalk.com/news/twi/twi000.html the EngineeringTalk.com news site is part of the Pro-Talk.com group of sites that publish industrial & scientific related articles on-line.
http://www.managenergy.net/links.html links from EU Directorate-General for Energy & Transport.
http://www.twiprofessional.com/content/weldlink.html various useful links from The Welding Institute.
http://www.twiprofessional.com/content/matlink.html TWI link for Materials.
http://www.welding.com/welding_organizations.asp has some useful links and a very good history of welding article.
http://www.ferris.edu/library/Subject/welding.htm Ferris State University Library site has some very good links to other major science & engineering sites.
http://www.dmoz.org/Science/Technology/Welding/ has links to the major welding sites.
http://www.laser.manchester.ac.uk/partners/industrial/index.htm a list of Manchester University’s industrial partners in relation to Lasers Processing Research.
http://www.weldinginfocenter.org/ this has some useful information and links to some of the well known North American welding organisations. It’s also a good place to start for a beginner as it has ‘health & safety’ links and ‘welding basics’ links. So, if you’ve just bought your first DIY welding kit it’s a very good idea to do some research before you start, this will help to avoid causing too much local chaos!
http://www.gowelding.com/ is a personal site of a registered Welding Engineer with some very useful information and some excellent links.
http://www.weldguru.com/ this American workaholic has produced a site all about welding with some interesting and very useful stuff!
http://www.wriindia.com/links.htm this is the Welding Research Institute(WRI) of India which has some good links.
http://www.atomseek.com/Technology/Welding/index.html has some excellent links such as Welding & Cutting Magazine, AWS, WTIA, EWI,etc.
ScienceDaily.com/articles/matter_energy/engineering has over 400 articles on Engineering subjects alone and collectively many thousands on all its science based topics.
Need to find an article on the Internet? Try: http://www.highbeam.com/ it’s a wizard for most things!
